The straight answers, no runaround.
Most people want the same simple thing: to wear their Ray-Ban Metas like glasses, not a camera. Here’s everything worth knowing before you do — what we do, the price, how fast it is, the warranty reality, the legal lines, and how mail-in works.
No call center, no fine print buried three clicks deep. These are the questions people actually email us — grouped so you can jump to what matters for your order. Don’t see yours? Email [email protected] and we’ll get back to you within one business day.
The service itself
What does ByeLED actually do?
We turn off the little white recording light on your Ray-Ban Meta (and similar smart glasses) so they read as normal eyewear instead of a camera. Everything else — camera, audio, app pairing, Meta AI — keeps working. Just the light goes. It’s a small, deliberate change and it’s permanent.
Why do people want the light off?
Mostly so they stop being "the camera guy." That glowing dot basically announces "I’m recording" to the whole room — people tense up and the hangout gets weird. Others just want a cleaner look on the frame, or the blink was bugging them, or it clashes with their shots.
What still works after?
Camera, audio, Meta AI, Bluetooth pairing, the Meta View app, and the hardware buttons all keep working. We do a quick before-and-after check on every pair so we know everything’s good. We can’t promise every single manufacturer feature, future firmware update, or third-party thing — but the core stuff works.
Is it reversible?
No — treat it as permanent.
Pricing & turnaround
How much does Ray-Ban Meta LED removal cost?
Three flat rates: $99 Delaware drop-off, $129 nationwide mail-in (plus return shipping at cost), and $149 Philly meet-up. Need it fast? Rush is +$50 when we’ve got the room. Full breakdown’s on the pricing page.
What do I get for the price?
A quick compatibility check before you pay anything, the actual fix, a before-and-after function check, and either same-day local pickup or shipped right back to you. That’s it — no checklist of busywork, just the light gone and your glasses back.
Any hidden fees?
Nope. The three rates are flat. The only extra is return shipping on mail-ins, quoted at carrier cost before we send them back. Rush is +$50 and totally optional.
How long does it take?
The fix itself takes under 30 minutes. If you’re local — Wilmington drop-off or a Philly meet-up — you pop in, we do it while you wait, and you walk out without the light, usually same day. Mailing it in? The fix is just as quick, we just do it the day it lands and ship it right back, so the wait is mostly shipping time each way.
Can you do same-day?
Usually, when we’ve got the room — that’s the whole point of dropping by local. Just mention you need it fast in your first email.
Warranty, legal, refusal
Will this void my Ray-Ban Meta warranty?
Assume yes. Any physical change to the indicator should be treated as voiding the manufacturer warranty, store return rights, protection plans, accidental-damage coverage, and any insurance that assumes the device is unmodified. We go over this with you up front, in plain English, before any work happens.
Is the modification legal where I live?
Generally yes. What’s actually regulated is what you do with the glasses afterward — recording, wiretapping, and consent laws vary by state and venue.
Which states are two-party consent for audio recording?
Most of the US is one-party consent. The notable exceptions include Pennsylvania, Maryland, California, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, Washington, and a few others. We’re not a legal source — check your state’s current law with an attorney.
What about the four states ByeLED serves directly?
Delaware: one-party consent. New Jersey: one-party consent. Pennsylvania: two-party (all-party) consent. Maryland: two-party (all-party) consent. The fix is the same in all four — what changes is your responsibility for lawful use afterward.
Can you refuse my order?
Yep, at our discretion. We turn down anything that sounds non-consensual, unlawful, or unsafe, where the ownership story doesn’t add up, or where the glasses show up in a different state than the photos. If we refuse, you get a full refund of anything you prepaid.
Does ByeLED report customers to anyone?
Not as part of normal business. We’ll cooperate with a lawful subpoena or law-enforcement request, and we’ll refuse or stop a job if something comes up that points to unlawful use. That’s what the quick screening is for.
Models & compatibility
Which Ray-Ban Meta models are supported?
Wayfarer, Headliner, and Skyler. We confirm the current production batch per unit before you pay — Meta has reportedly added tamper detection on newer hardware, so we check for that when you send a photo. Full list’s on the compatible models page.
What about Oakley Meta HSTN?
We check it case by case. Mention the exact model in your first email and send a photo of the temple.
Ray-Ban Stories (the original pre-Meta-branded ones)?
Older platform, different light hardware. Sometimes doable, sometimes not — send a pic and we’ll tell you straight.
Snap Spectacles?
Not part of the standard service right now. Different product line, different light design.
How do I know which model I have?
Send a clear photo of the temple where the recording light sits, plus a shot of the inside of the frame if you can. We’ll ID the model from those and reply.
Mail-in
How does mail-in work, start to finish?
Send a photo and your city → we confirm it’s a yes and give you the ship-to address → ship it tracked + insured → we do the fix the day it lands → we ship it right back, tracked + insured. The fix itself is quick; the wait is just shipping each way. Full walk-through on the mail-in page.
Which carrier should I use?
UPS Ground, FedEx Ground, or USPS Priority Mail with tracking and replacement-value insurance. Skip uninsured first-class mail.
How should I pack the glasses?
Hard case (the original Ray-Ban Meta case or a rigid substitute), then about 2 inches of foam, bubble, or paper padding on every side inside a sturdy corrugated box. No envelopes, no padded mailers.
How much insurance?
Replacement value of the glasses — usually $300–$400 depending on the model. The insurance is on you, but we do require it before we approve a mail-in.
What if the package gets lost or damaged in transit?
Carrier risk is on you — that’s exactly why we require insurance up front. If a package shows up damaged, opened, or in a different condition than your photos, we pause the job and talk to you before doing anything.
Can I ship internationally?
US-only for now. Customs hassle on modified electronics isn’t worth the risk.
Everything else
Are you affiliated with Meta or Ray-Ban?
Nope — totally independent. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Meta, Ray-Ban, EssilorLuxottica, Oakley, Facebook, or Instagram. Those brand names just identify the customer-owned glasses we work on.
How do I get in touch?
Email [email protected] or use the order form. That’s the main channel for orders, partner questions, legal stuff, and press. We reply within one business day.
Do you have a phone number?
We’re email-first on purpose — it keeps the important stuff (model confirmation, price, what you’re agreeing to) clear and in writing, so nothing gets lost. Quickest way to start is a photo and your city.
Do you do other smart glasses besides Ray-Ban Meta?
We check Oakley Meta and older Ray-Ban Stories case by case. Snap Spectacles aren’t in scope right now. Email us photos and we’ll tell you straight.
I’m a journalist or researcher. Can we talk?
Sure. Email a quick description of your story and timeline. Happy to talk on background about the service, the lawful-use screening, and why a real local person beats an anonymous online listing.
I’m interested in becoming a partner / operator.
Check the partner program page. Vetted-only, tiered training, apply by email.
Still have a question?
Email a photo of the temple, your closest city, and which option you’re leaning toward — Delaware, Philadelphia, or mail-in. We reply within one business day with compatibility, price, and the next step.
