ByeLED has three handoff options: Wilmington walk-in, Philadelphia mobile meet-up, and nationwide mail-in. The bench work is identical across all three. The price difference is logistics. Here is how to pick.
The three options at a glance
| Option | Price | Total time | Where the glasses are |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wilmington walk-in | $99 flat | ~30–45 min total appointment | In front of you, on the bench |
| Philly mobile meet-up | $149 flat | ~30–45 min total appointment | In front of you, portable bench |
| Nationwide mail-in | $129 + return shipping | 7–12 business days end-to-end | With the carrier, then with ByeLED |
When the Wilmington walk-in is the right call
You live in or near New Castle County, Delaware. Newark, Bear, Pike Creek, Wilmington itself, all of Brandywine Hundred. The drive is short, the rate is cheapest, the appointment is the most transparent version of the service. You watch every intake photo get taken, you read and sign the waiver in person, the work happens on the bench in front of you, and you walk out with the documented file.
Customers from outside the immediate New Castle County area sometimes still pick the walk-in because they value the in-person experience: Chester County, PA folks from West Chester or Kennett Square; northeast Maryland customers from Elkton, North East, and Bel Air; South Jersey customers in Salem and Cumberland counties.
When the Philadelphia meet-up makes sense
You live in Greater Philadelphia or one of the close suburbs. Center City, South Philly, Fishtown, University City, the Main Line. South Jersey towns like Cherry Hill, Voorhees, Haddonfield, and Mt. Laurel. The $149 rate covers travel and meeting time on top of the bench work itself. The meeting happens at a public, well-lit location confirmed by email after intake approval.
Meet-up customers get the same in-person, in-front-of-you experience as walk-in customers — just at a portable bench in a public spot. The intake checklist, waiver, function check, and after-the-fact photo file are identical.
When mail-in is the right call
You live outside the I-95 corridor between Baltimore and Princeton. Anywhere in Maryland, DC, NJ shore, central or western PA, the rest of the US. The $129 nationwide service includes intake approval before you ship, photographs the glasses the same business day they arrive, completes the bench work in a 3 to 5 day window, and ships back tracked and insured with the full photo file in your inbox.
Carrier transit is typically 2 to 3 business days each way. End-to-end is 7 to 12 business days from when you drop the package. Insurance for the replacement value of the glasses is required as part of intake approval — carrier loss or damage in transit is the customer's responsibility.
Where the math gets interesting
A few cases where the obvious choice isn't necessarily the best one:
- Lancaster, Reading, Harrisburg. The $99 walk-in plus a 75 to 90 minute drive can still be cheaper than the $129 mail-in plus return shipping — if you value the in-person experience and don't mind the round trip.
- Cherry Hill / South Jersey. The Philly meet-up is the default at $149, but if you live in Cherry Hill or Voorhees and can drive across the Commodore Barry Bridge, the $99 Wilmington walk-in is roughly the same drive time for $50 less.
- Bel Air, Aberdeen, Northeast MD. Mail-in default? Skip it — you are inside the realistic Wilmington walk-in radius. About an hour up I-95, $99 flat.
- Baltimore proper, Annapolis, DMV. The drive to Wilmington is doable but a half-day. Mail-in is the cleaner choice for most.
What does not change
The bench work itself is identical across all three options. Photo-before-payment compatibility check, written quote, signed waiver, intake photos, function check, modification, after-the-fact function check, completion photos, photo file shared with the order. The only difference is whether you watch it happen or get the file emailed.

FAQ on this topic
Is the walk-in really only 30 minutes?
The bench work is 20 to 30 minutes. Add 10 to 15 minutes for intake photos, waiver review, and the after-the-fact function check. Total appointment is typically 30 to 45 minutes.
Can I switch between options after I email?
Yes. The intake email is the recommendation step. If we suggest mail-in but you want to drive up, just say so — the rate adjusts accordingly.
Is there an upcharge for in-person service?
Only the rate difference. The Wilmington walk-in is cheapest ($99) precisely because there is no travel or shipping overhead.
